Mayor Island/Tuhua Easter 3-6 April 2026
Mayor Island is a wildlife refuge and dormant volcano off the Tauranga coast. This is a unique opportunity to visit a special island in a marine reserve offshore from the beautiful Bay of Plenty.

Friday 3rd April – Depart 7.00am
Drive Auckland to Tauranga – 204 kms approx. 2-3 hours (Easter traffic dependent)
Charter boat Tauranga to Mayor Island approx. 2-3 hours
Arrive Mayor Island.
Tuhua Camp South East Bay
Cabins or bunk option.
Note; there are no facilities on the island. All gear must be packed in and packed out.
Saturday 4th
Fit party:
Day walk around the Island 6-8 hours for fit/experienced party
Back to camp for the night.
Medium party:
Options from below.
Devil’s Staircase 3.5 hours return
Tutaretare Lookout 1.5 hours return
Panui beacon 1 hour return
Sunday 5th
Fit and Medium parties:
Devil’s Staircase 3.5 hours return
Tutaretare Lookout 1.5 hours return
Panui beacon 1 hour return
Swimming – tides/weather permitting
Sunday 5th evening or Monday 6th morning
Charter boat Mayor Island to Tauranga
Bus back to Auckland with a stop along the way for a quick tramp TBC.
Approximate costs:
$350 per person, depending on numbers. Minimum of 20 required.
