 BECOME A MEMBER

To apply for membership, you MUST have already completed two single day-long qualifying tramps as a non-member, within the previous 6 months. 

You can then apply online for membership here.

Payment

Please pay your membership fee when you apply, by either:

  • Online bank transfer
  • Depositing into the clubs bank account, at any branch of the ASB Bank

The clubs account details are:

  • North Shore Tramping Club Inc
  • ASB - 12 3011 0809394 00 (include your name and “Sub” in the references).

What's Next

Your application will be forwarded to the club committee for approval. The primary criteria for acceptance are for you to have demonstrated:

  • You have completed two qualifying trips and demonstrated a sufficient level of fitness to participate in club day tramps
  • You follow the clubs safety guidelines (see here), and are able to be responsible for your own safety

When your application is accepted, we will advise you by phone or email (if an address is provided), and will send you a membership pack.

If your application is not accepted, your application fee will be returned in full.

  • Membership of the Federation of Mountain Clubs - this provides:
    • FMC card - this provides great discounts including 30% off DOC Annual Hut pass, 30% of Macpac gear, 10% off Great Walk fees, 33% off Wilderness magazine, 10% - 20% off at other major gear and equipment suppliers, and 10% off other travel prices.  See here for details
    • Advocacy - for the great outdoors at both a regional and national level
    • FMC quarterly magazine -  posted to your address
  • Reduced Trip Fees - avoid non-member surcharges for Sunday and away trips 
  • Away Trips - register for away trips
  • Training Course Subsidies - a 50% subsidy on completion of club approved tramping related courses
  • Loan Gear - borrow club gear such as tents, cookers, packs, etc for free for club trips.  Gear may be hired for non‐club trips for a minimal charge
  • Club Library - borrow books from the large club library

       FEE OPTIONS

      The membership fee is payable with your application.  The annual NSTC fees are:
        • Ordinary - $48.00 prorated (18 yrs or older)
        • Junior - $5.00 for the year (under 18).   Children under the age of 14 must be in the charge of an adult
        • Associate - $5.00 for the year (18 yrs or older).  Intended for members who do not wish to tramp.  Associate members do not receive member discounts on day trips, cannot participate in away trips, or receive training course subsidies or borrow club gear.  Can subscribe to the club newsletter and join FMC

        Extras:

        • $17 for FMC affiliation membership (recommended)
        • $13.60 for FMC Backcountry magazine (recommended, and requires FMC membership)
        The membership year runs from July to June.  Ordinary membership fees are prorated when joining part way through the year.
