Coromandel Anniversary Weekend: Pinnacles and Moss Creek
Saturday 24th to Monday 26th January NOTE: 7:15am Start from Como Street
A: Medium Party: Pinnacles and Crosbie's Hut
Saturday: The bus will drop us off on Kauaueranga Valley road with our daypacks. We then be shuttled to the start of the Webb Creek Track. The objective for the day will be to summit the famous Pinnacles, with their panoramic views from the East Coast to the Hauraki Plains. After a leisurely lunch on the covered deck of the Pinnacles Hut, we will make our way back down to camp at the Hotoritori Campsite (booked). 3-4 hours to the summit, approximate 2.5 hours return. Note: A tent is required.
You may choose to spend the night in the truck or camp at Horiorito Campsite (booked) in the Kauaeranga Valley
COST: Travel $50 Campsite and hut booking $35 - Total $85.00 (MUATC less MUATC subsidy of $20 - Total $65.00)
Sunday and Monday: Set off along the Whangaiterenega Track for the 10km or 4-to-6-hour tramp to spend the night at Crosbies Hut with its expansive views (booked). Return along the same track.
B: Fit Party: Billy Goat Basin and Moss Creek - Camping
Saturday: After dropping off the medium party, we will travel to Broken Hills and begin the 6-7 hour hike to Billy Goat campsite (booked).
Sunday and Monday: Head North and West along the Billygoat/Webb Creek/Moss Creek tracks to camp the night at Moss Creek campsite (not bookable). Return to Kauaeranga to be shuttled to the bus. The super-enthusiastic will be able to divert to climb the Pinnacles if numbers and conditions work out. Note: A tent is required.
COST: Travel $69 Billy Goat site booking $10 - Total $79.00 (MUATC less MUATC subsidy of $20 - Total $59.00)
