Tawharanui Peninsula
The stunning Tawharanui Peninsula is a pest-free habitat, behind a predator proof fence, treasured native species like Bellbirds, Whiteheads, Geckos, Takahe, Dotteralls, Blue Penguins and Kiwi and many more thrive. And if you’re lucky, you might spot seals vying for a sunny rock or frolicking in the sea. As it is spring the bird life should be very active.
As well as the bird life the coastal headland of this peninsula offers extensive views of Kawau Island, Little Barrier, and Great Barrier not to forget the pristine long beaches of this popular peninsula. The park has multiple tracks of varying length, but times will be flexible depending on how many photos you want to take.
If the weather is nice and sunny, all parties should have plenty of time to go for a swim afterwards, so make sure you bring your togs as the crystal-clear water temperature is usually a few degrees warmer than the southern North Shore.
Make sure you bring plenty of drinking water as there will be limited areas to refill.
