Kaitarakihi Summit, Coromandel
This track takes you to one of the distinctive peaks in the rugged Coromandel ranges, it starts at the top of the Kopu Hikuai Road (SH25A) and follows an undulating ridgeline, on a fine day you will get splendid views over both the East and West coasts culminating in a steep climb with the help of chains in place for the final ascent to Kaitarakihi trig (852m). for those not wishing to participate in the final climb there is a nice lunch spot at the base.
This is an advanced tramping track. It is a rough and challenging track, expect mud, tree roots, steep and exposed in parts, and can be slippery after rain. Expect about 7.2 Km 5 – 6hours return.
You will need plenty of drinking water, as there is no supply on this track!
