Takapuna/Devonport Explorer Loop

Meet at The Strand, Takapuna our usual Sunday pick up spot in front of Seven Hills Cafe)
Leaving Takapuna we take a coastal and cliff walk to Devonport.
We will ascend 3 maunga (these are smaller mountains}; first Mt Victoria and then North Head where you will enter a tunnel to see the disappearing gun dating back to WW1 & WW2 – bring a torch, headlight or phone torch!
Then over to the remains of Mt Cambria which was quarried to build Devonport and the rock face behind the Devonport Naval Museum.
The third and last maunga is Mt Victoria which also has a disappearing gun. From here we descend to the seaside village of Devonport and head towards the green path alongside Ngataringa Bay. We will see the Celtic maze, traverse Pollys Park and head to Shoal Bay and back to Takapuna.
You will require good grip along the foreshore, so trail shoes are fine. Distance will depend which tracks we do, between 17.5 - 20km
Cost: Free to all, no bus today.
Bring your lunch, plenty of water (AT LEAST 2 LITRES) and a torch to explore the tunnel.
