Embark on an adventure through the picturesque Hunua Ranges. We commence at Mangatawhiri Dam, where we’ll follow an anti-clockwise route around the reservoir. Initially, we’ll ascend Lilburne Road, leading us to the Piggots Hut & Campsite. The distance party will detour onto Rata Ridge track. All groups will then ascend on Ernies' track to a viewpoint at 497 meters, offering breathtaking vistas. Our descent leads to the Mangatawhiri River, and return to the bus along the reservoir’s western edge.

Expect a tramp lasting approximately 5-6 hours, featuring steep hills, a stream crossing, and potentially slippery and muddy terrain. For additional track details, see this report.
