KAREKARE, WAITAKERE RANGES

Firstly, with the current high temperatures, please ensure you have 2 litres of water or more with you!!
The Comans Track re-opened 3 years ago & Ahu Ahu Track after that, after major track resurfacing had been carried out, so we're going to make the most of the opportunity to get into the Waitak's again and the incredible coastal clifftop views from this track and Mercer Bay loop & Log Race Road Track in Karekare.
Many of our newer members may not have done these tracks.

One of the tracks boasts the highest vertical sea cliffs in the Auckland region at 270 metres, with views to match.  We have spotted Orca and Gannets passing during previous tramps here.

We'll head to Karekare Beach and the impressive Karekare Waterfall near the start of the Taraire Track as well, that should be in full flow, so there will be many photo opportunities worth bringing your camera or camera phone out for, including along the cliff tops, whether it be sunny or overcast or showery the views are sublime!
We'll check out some incredible rock formations along the way.

There should be an opportunity to swim at the base of the Karekare Waterfall, for those keen for a cooling dip.  A small tramping towel if you need to dry off after dipping.

Please note this is a steep area, and lots of steps up/down Comans Track.
We'll endeavour to have our usual different group speeds/distances.

**  PLEASE ensure that all of your gear is clean, poles, boots, bag etc, as always before and again afterwards and especially as we're in the Waitakere Ranges and we will be passing Kauri'd areas.    With fresh, clean footwear and bag and clothing on the bus for afterwards and fully cleaned afterwards.
