North Shore Tramping Club
Hi trampers, as the club trip to Whirinaki was called off due to Deparment of Conservation recommendations, we'll do the Takapuna to Devonport loop. We'll try do a few side bits along the way for a bit of a twist! We'll start promptly at 9am to try catch the low tide at about 2.20pm on the way back (failing the low tide option we'll use park tracks on the tops, well back from the edges) and head south towards Devonport around the back way via Hauraki and Bayswater via the shaded bush tracks if they've not washed away (otherwise we'll use the top tracks) and then up and over North Head and Mt Victoria and then cross over to the other side of the Peninsula to cover the tracks that side. The views are always amazing, and we'll find a suitably stunning place to stop for lunch as always. Please note the foreshore will be slippery and uneven, as will probably be the grassed or freshly muddy tracks. Expect to walk approximately 4-4.5 hours or less if the groups are smaller. Please bring: ample food and cold water, at least 2 litres (due to the high temperatures & humidity forecasted this weekend) and day pack, spare clean shoes for after for regular good tramping habits (check list of what to bring, for newbies). Comfortable trail shoes or running shoes with good grip you don't mind getting dirty or that are washable will be ideal. Boots will be too heavy & hard soled. If joining us for this event, as with all tramps, please ensure that all your gear, especially footwear is scrupulously clean before and cleaned after. We'd normally explore the tunnels, but given the amount of slips and rainfall in the last week, not this time. Departure / Meeting point: - Date: Sunday 5th February 2023 - Time: 9am - In front of Seven Hills Cafe - 1-7 The Strand, Takapuna as usual; No bus today! Organiser: Imogen 027 289 8440 (no texts newbies, please phone!) (Financial members please register online). Cost: FREE.
