Hut baggers won’t want to miss this one!

You may not find Champion Hut marked on any map of Neavesville in the Hikuai area, so we will have to use good navigational skills to locate and bag this old Kauri slab hut, in an area that has been extensively mined and milled by pioneers in times long ago.

We will start at the end of Puriri valley road and follow a four-wheel drive track up to a water supply intake filter, then continue along the Apakura stream crossing it several times and navigating ourselves up to where the hut might be? From there if time permits, we will continue up Pakirarahi 787 meters for views of the Hauraki plans.

Expect a 500 meter or more elevation gain, wet feet and possibly more, mud, bush bashing, scrambling, arguing and lots of fun!!!

You will need a good level of fitness.

Time:  Depart Takapuna 8am

Cost:  $25.00 members, $30 non members.

Non-members please phone the organiser to assess your suitability for the tramp

Organiser:  Chris Peard  021 277 0270
