COMANS TRACK-KAREKARE-PARARAHA – NOTE CHANGE OF ROUTE

This is an opportunity to take in part of the Hillary Trail opened once again.
Starting at the Radar Station/top of Comans track loop, we descend to Karekare with amazing views of the beautiful west coast beaches. At Karekare we head onto the beach and through the everchanging sand dunes to Tunnel Campground. Continuing to Pararaha Camp site, retracing our steps back to Tunnel Camp site for lunch and back to Karekare carpark.
For those who are keen, there’s a small side trip to the beautiful Karekare waterfall before we tackle the climb back up Comans Track to the bus. The views will certainly make the climb worthwhile. Elevaion gained 450m.
Keep an eye out for dotterels, oystercatchers and pipits as well as the amazing rock formations.
Full track length 17.5km. Elevation gained 450m.
Shorter option: for those who wish, to shorten the walk to remain at Tunnel Campground and wait for the Pararaha party to return, and/or omitting the Waterfall loop.
Track is suitable for trail shoes.
Very important, PLEASE ensure all your gear is clean, as this is a Kauri area and as always ensure you thoroughly clean your gear afterwards. Bring clean footwear for bus trip back and bag for dirty footwear

Covid in the Red Light Setting:
The latest Ministry of Health advice is our Club is now covered under the Private Gathering guidelines. With the use of Vaccine Passports and the other registration procedures we have in place physical distancing is not required.
Under the Red Light-Level 2 & 3 settings there is no limitation on the number of people we can take on the bus.
