River Crossing Course - New Arrangements for Sunday:7th Nov'21

With Auckland still in lockdown our River Crossing Course in the Karangahake Gorge is not able to proceed as planned. Instead I have come up with a plan in conjunction with Outdoor Training NZ to provide a viable alternative so everyone has some preparation for the Xmas Trip.

Outdoor Training NZ has kindly put together a training session for us which will provide you with the key areas to think about before crossing rivers.

If the practical part of the Course is not able to be run this year you will receive a credit for the difference.

Details

Meet : 9.30am Sunday 7th November’21

Where: Freyberg Park , 4 Woodlands Crescent, Browns Bay, Auckland

There is plenty of parking available. Please meet near the toilet block

Expected finish time: 12.30pm

Link for directions: FREYBERG PARK-Browns Bay

Outdoor Training NZ

Alex Warriner - Course Director and 3 other members of his team will split you into Groups of  up to 6.

The instruction will cover:

  • Hydrology (River features)
  • Trip preparation
  • Party Management
  • Packing packs
  • River Crossing Techniques

The Alert Level 3 social distancing (2 metres) rules will apply.

  • Masks should be worn
  • Only come out with us if you are well
  • It is expected everyone has been vaccinated
  • If weather is unsuitable for holding the Course I will contact you on the Saturday: 6th Nov'21
  •  If you are not able to attend please contact me.
(2) If  the current lockdown situation improves and Auckland moves to the new “Orange” setting in December we will try and organize a River Crossing session somewhere in Auckland to give everyone the practical part we are not able to run during Alert Level 3.
