Ernies Track, Central Hunua Ranges

A tramp in the heart of the Hunuas, with parties to suit all speeds … and ages.

We begin at Mangatawhiri Dam and skirt the western side of the reservoir before crossing the Mangatawhiri River (there is a bridge), then a steady climb up to a fine viewpoint on a grassy knoll at 497 metres.

Some parties will descend directly on the Lilburne Track, while others will divert along the Rata Ridge Track back to the bus.

All groups will tramp 5-6 hour approximately and there will be some steep hills, up to approximately 500 metres, terrain maybe also slippery and will be uneven.  

*  Only come out with us if you are well 
*  You are welcome to use your face mask and hand sanitiser. 
*  There will be a COVID-19 QR code available for scanning.
*  If you have arrived from overseas in the last month, please stay away.
