WAIAKE TO CAMPBELL'S BAY - SPRING OPEN DAY 2020

  • 22 Nov 2020
  • 8:00 AM   (SHARP DEPARTURE! )

  • Location

Southern end of Waiake Beach by the BBQ  (opposite 924 Beach Rd, Waiake)

Whether you are an experienced tramper or a novice newbie looking to join a really friendly, very well established, organised club with a huge variety of ages and tramping events and a club bus we normally use, this is the day for you!  We'll have different group distances to suit different fitness as usual and a reasonable level of fitness and balance is required for this part of the Te Araroa Walkway.

We'll start very promptly at 8am to catch the super low 3.3 metre low tide at about 7.27am and head south towards along the foreshore, covering an area we haven't done on a previous open day.  Heading into the cool covered bush tracks and returning via alternative paths, with maybe a brief stop at an award winning Gelato cafe when we're almost back.

Upon returning to Waiake we'll have a relaxed bbq and cooling swim and socialising.   Please BYO your favourite bbq items and  refreshments and the club will provide some sausages, sauces and bread.

Please note the foreshore will be slippery and uneven.    Expect to walk approximately 4.5 - 5 hours on uneven terrain.
Please bring:  swimming gear, ample food and cold water and day pack.

Comfortable trail shoes or running shoes you don't mind getting dirty or that are washable will be ideal.

If joining us for this event, as with all tramps, please ensure that all your gear, especially footwear is scrupulously clean before and cleaned after.  Please bring a clean change of footwear for after to get into good regular after tramping habits.
