Birkenhead War Memorial tree planting - very kid & teen friendly

  • 26 Jul 2020
  • 8:20 AM

Continuing our give back to the community volunteer programme each year, this trip we will be tree planting at the local Birkenhead War Memorial park.
Another beautiful park that we usually skirt around.

Tree planting is really important, as it provides habitat for the native creatures that rely on the sustenance and cover provided by these trees and also in gullies where there have been slips in the past, to hold the ground together to help prevent further slippage.

Come be part of part of something amazing and feel rewarded and satisfied and please let friends and family know too, if they want to join in.

Planting is from 9am.  Meet us at 8.20am, and we'll walk over together.  Dress for the weather, bring warm clothing, raincoat and gaitors are a good idea and wear closed footwear suitable for a muddy slope.  Please watch the weather forecast,  but planting usually goes ahead regardless of the weather (if in doubt check their facebook page below).
Gloves and spades are often provided but feel free to bring your own clean equipment.

We will go for a walk around this beautiful park and Kaipatiki Park after lunch and planting.

Very important, PLEASE ensure all your gear is VERY clean, as there are Kauri'd areas and Kauri Dieback in this area, so as always ensure you thoroughly clean your gear afterwards!!   And please ensure you have a spare footwear in your car for after, so no dirt is transferred!!!   No freshly tramped/planting shoes permitted back in cars!!!!

Please bring your own hand sanitiser just in case we need to stop somewhere along the way or to be used at boot stations or on spades etc.

Please if you are unwell, cold or flu type symptoms, stay away.

** Non-members:  Please phone the organiser to check suitability of the tramp
