Ambury Farm, Mangere Bridge & Mountain - Seabirds!

  • 14 Jun 2020
  • 9:00 AM
  • 7 The Strand, Takapuna

Date:        Sunday 14th June 2020
Time:         9am

Where:     7 The Strand Takapuna, outside Massimo Cafe.
(Big Yellow's/club bus first outing for a while)

As we haven't done this tramp for about 3 years ish, it must be time again and in winter for variety and we'll switch it up and do the tramp differently and to coincide with the outgoing high tide at 11.05am to make the most of all the spectacular wide array of seabirds from all over the world that are around at the moment, that flock to this specific area.

This is an extremely scenic tramp, so definitely bring your camera, phone camera and binoculars for bird spotting.  There are a few bird hides we can check out too in this area that many may not have been to.

We will also head up and around the 107 metre summit of Mangere Mountain.  The views are very beautiful and our treasured Waitakere Ranges look so close across the other side of the Manukau Harbour as we make our way around this coastal tramp.

Trail shoes or running shoes you don't mind getting dirty would be most suitable.  Tramping boots will be heavy on the firm surfaces.

Approximately 21kms in total for the medium distance and another potential 7kms if the Long party really want to fly and stretch their legs around the other side of Puketutu Island & Stonefields, with easy, fast footing.

Please ensure you're there by 8.45am so we can get everyone as usual for pre-departure briefing.

(PLEASE, bring a change of clean footwear to change into afterwards so you are not possibly transferring any Kauri Dieback.    Please ensure all of your gear is clean, as we may pass through Kauri'd areas).

Please bring your own hand sanitiser just in case we need to stop somewhere along the way.

Please if you are unwell, cold or flu type symptoms, stay away.

** Non-members:  Please phone the organiser to check suitability of the tramp

Cost:           *  $10 members, $15 non-members, juniors $5

Organiser:  Imogen  0272898440  (Please phone newbies, no texts)
