CANCELLED - LEVEL 3 - Whangarei Heads: Bream Head- Peach Cove Trip

  • $20 deposit required by 30 April to secure hut bed

  •     Magnificent coastal panorama views.
  •     Ruins of a WWII radar station.

Experience magnificent views from the Te Whara track at the Bream Head summit, towards the Ocean Beach end of Cape Brett  in the north to Cape Rodney in the south, as well as the Poor Knights Islands, Taranga and Marotere Islands in the Hen and Chickens Islands group, with Little Barrier and Great Barrier Island in the far east. This track climbs through coastal forest before revealing a spectacular 360-degree panorama.

 Short Party:

Sat: Leave from Ocean Beach Rd Carpark and take Te Whara Track to Peach Cove Hut. 3 1/2 hrs: Peach Cove Hut: 8 Bunks:

The track runs up one side of Bream Head Ridge and drops down the other side into Peach Cove, a lovely sandy beach. You'll pass through attractive coastal broadleaf forest, and stay the night at the Peach Cove hut.

Limited to 8 People maximum due to Peach Cove Hut only having 8 bunks.

Sun: Peach Cove Hut to Urquharts Bay car park via Mt Lion: 3 hrs

Distance Party:

Sat:  Depart Urquharts Bay car park to Smuggler Bay by Loop track then over Mt Lion to Peach Cove Track then to Ocean Beach Road end via Te Whara Track. ~ 5 1/2 hrs

Bus will be parked for overnight accommodation at the Ocean Beach Carpark which has toilet facilities. Recommend bring extra water

Sun: Ocean Beach Carpark to Peach Cove Track then back over Mt Lion to Urquharts Bay car park: 3 ½ hrs

Both parties meet bus back at Urquharts Bay.

Early Sunday afternoon for those keen : Mount Manaia Track.

• Mount Manaia is one of a cluster of majestic, jagged, bush-covered hills, the remnants of volcanic action, that overlook the entrance to Whangarei harbour. There are impressive views over Bream Bay from the summit, 403 metres above sea-level. Spectacular views from the Bluff lookout to Bream Head, Hen and Chicken islands and the entrance to the Whangarei Harbour.

2 hrs return (4km). Easy.

As there is still a possibility of COVID-19 in the community:

  • Only come out with us if you are well 
  • Bring warm clothing as we will endeavour to keep the bus well ventilated
  • You are welcome to use your face mask and hand sanitiser on the bus
  • There will be a COVID-19 QR code available for scanning
