With less options for walking places around with so many closed currently, join us to walk around the stunning beach side Wenderholm Regional Park and Waiwera areas.
Making the most of the low tide at around 12.17pm, we'll do things a bit differently to try and get some walking in, so starting at Wenderholm we'll do one hill track then drop down to investigate Mahurangi Island that you can only reach at low tide.
Then head low tide to the bridge, or if the tide is low enough, shallow wade across, head past Waiwera and low tide around to Hadfields Beach & return, head back into more of the Wenderholm Tracks back to the bus. There are a few hills in the park, with the high point at 156 metres enough to wake the muscles up, and you're bound to get some good photos, or down on the foreshore.
Probably towards the end of the tramp we'll check out historic Couldrey House, dating back to early 1900's when it took 9 hours by ferry from town to Wenderholm! And for those interested I'll show you some fairly rare, extremely large Oak trees.
* If the house is open, it's entry via $5 donation) http://couldreyhouse.org.nz/historic/
Trail shoes would probably be ok due to the foreshore walking, but prepare for a bit of mud on the hill tracks.
As we're doing low tide along the rocks towards Hadfields Beach and back, we will be over rocks that are bound to be slippery, so this is a tramp for the sure footed.
There are Kauri in at Wenderholm, so PLEASE, PLEASE ensure all of your gear is absolutely clean before and fully cleaned when you get home!!!!!!
