Waitawheta Walkway, Kaimai Ranges

  • 7 Oct 2018
  • 8:00 AM
  • The Strand, Takapuna
This tramp follows alongside the Waitawheta River through private farmland before following the Tramway Track, stopping at various information signs along the way about when, why and how the tramway was built. Relics including a replica logging bogie bring history to life along this Kaimai Heritage Trail.

We cross the river five times. Four sizeable suspension bridges plus one rock hopping river crossing. We eventually reach the very unique and aptly named Toilet Bowl Waterfall. Then onto the 26 bunk Waitawheta Hut where we will have lunch and explore the surrounding area.

The scenic beauty of the area is absolutely magnificent with massive boulders, towering rock walls and re-generating bush including young Kauri, Rimu, Nikau, Kohekohe and Pukatea so make sure to bring your camera.

This is an out and back tramp.
