South Kaipara Peninsula, North Auckland

We bus to the north-east side of the South Kaipara peninsula and walk the Te Rau Puriri Track down to Waipiro Bay, returning the same way.

We will then go to the carpark at the Lagoon Road on the northern end of the peninsula.  From there we will explore the edges of the Wainoni Inlet and wander (with the outgoing tide) out towards South Head. This wonderful lagoon backs on to the north side of the Papakanui Split, which lies right opposite Pouto on the north side of the Kaipara Harbour.

If time permits we may also do the track around Lake Ototoa, a lovely fresh-water dune lake and DOC area.

Low-tide 4.06pm.
