Please note that the club will refund 50% of the cost of courses on completion and on tendering of receipt to the Committee.

The committee encourages members to do the  river crossing and outdoor first aid trips – these are especially useful for you – and those who tramp with you.

ONE DAY RIVER SAFETY - $55.00 (NEXT ONE DECEMBER)
This course is aimed at people who may travel alongside, in or across rivers or streams in the New Zealand outdoors.  Participants must be fit to travel 4+ hours across a rough surface (boulder riverbed) with a full pack.

On completion of this course, you will be able to understand basic river dynamics and hazards; know the basic safety rules for crossing a river or stream; be able to pick where it is safest to cross; organize clothing and equipment for travel/river crossing; use an approved method for solo crossing; use an approved mutual support method; know how to float and recover if swept away; know how to self release from a trapped pack and how to safely retreat during a crossing if necessary.

Course starts at 9am and ends approx 4pm.

3 December Karangahake Gorge (min 6)

OUTDOOR FIRST AID, TWO DAY FULL COURSE- $120 if course fees received two weeks in advance of course.  $140 last 2 weeks.
This is a comprehensive First Aid course held in the outdoors and designed for everyone, but especially for those who live, work and play in the outdoors. A First Aid Manual is included in the course fee.

The course is non-residential and starts at 8am on both Saturday and Sunday – finishing around 4-5pm each day.

Fri eve 4 Nov – Sun pm  6 Nov Motu Moana, Green Bay
OUTDOOR FIRST AID, ONE DAY REFRESHER- $60.00 if course fees received two weeks in advance of course.  $80.00 last 2 weeks.
This is a refresher course for those who have completed a two day Mountain Safety Outdoor First Aid Course and require revalidation.  The course starts at 8am and ends approx 5pm.

INTERMEDIATE BUSHCRAFT- $75.00

This course is more field-oriented than the basic course with most of the time spent in the outdoors.  A planned weekend overnight trip is included.  Participants should have attended a Risk Management and First Aid course, must have basic bushcraft skills and be fit to travel 3-4 hours through bush terrain in the Hunua Ranges with an overnight pack.

On completion of this course, you will have learnt to navigate with and without a compass (grid method) over a selected route; safely travel off-track in non-challenging bush terrain; rotate the responsibility of the party leader; select a suitable campsite; use a mountain radio; deal with some basic emergency and first aid situations; build an emergency shelter and sleep in it and complete observations/predictions of field weather.

This course meets DOE Silver requirements.  A pack liner is included in the course fee.  Courses start at 9.00 am Saturday morning and finish approx 4pm Sunday.

Prior to the course, there is a theory information evening which will be held at Unitec, Mt Albert from 7.00 – 9.00pm  The ’Introduction to Bushcraft’ course must be completed prior to participating in this course.
