Leki Poles 17/05/2012
Are very useful but also potentially dangerous to others………. We had a recent incident where one of our stalwarts received a nasty leg cut from another person’s Leki. Please, either use the rubber pole ends or exercise great care. Follow the person in front of you at a safe distance and never waft your Leki about! not only on the track but also when getting on and off the bus. Add Comment Gear For Sale 17/05/2012

Cell phone use 01/02/2012
Moving with the times, the club has altered its policy on cell phones. You may have your cell phone switched on, either silent or vibrate as it has on occassion been very useful contacting people within a different trip party, when needed. So on the contact sheet we fill out each trip, if you have a cell phone, please provide this number as the first contact number. Backcountry Cuisine Dehydrated Meals 26/11/2011

Usual reminder…. Don’t forget to clean your boots – to help keep our kauris free of disease – and to keep our bus clean – thanks and happy tramping. As well as cleaning the boots, please check your Leki pole ends for mud- it tends to lurk there!! New Macpac Store in Auckland City 22/10/2011
There is a new Macpac store in the city in Custom Street East. Well worth a look. It’s a big, bright shop with lots of clearance items. Boots! 22/08/2011
Usual reminder…. Don’t forget to clean your boots – to help keep our kauris free of disease – and to keep our bus clean – thanks and happy tramping. When did you last check your first aid kit? 24/07/2011
The following list comes from the Mountain Safety Council’s First Aid in the Outdoors course- it provides an excellent basic guide for you. Time to modernise that first aid kit- out with the rusty needles and mercurochrome! And – regarding the antihistamine- it was suggested that you check with your chemist and go for a variety which isn’t slow release……Disposable gloves and CPR shield ( both lightweight) protect you from the likes of hepatitis – not necessarily from NSTC trampers- you may come across others needing first aid. It is well worthwhile doing the MSC first aid course. Details were in previous newsletters and will be repeated next time. Next one is November- remember the club pays half your fees - you get superb training, an interesting weekend and an excellent manual. Thermal blankets and other emergency items 24/07/2011
Trish will put a spare thermal blanket in the first aid cupboard on the bus. Please feel free to use it if you come back to the bus cold, wet and shivery. Question. Do you carry one in your pack? If not it is a good idea – they are under $5 in the Kathmandu sale. Also, do you carry spare food and first aid? At the end of the newsletter is a list of suggested items for a tramper’s first aid kits. We can’t always be lucky enough to be in the same party as Marianne if we have an accident! |
